Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great example of a multi-piece Japanese Good Luck flag, with the names of dozens of Japanese friends and family of the departing soldier. There are also some well wishes, with the largest at the top of the flag reading Prayers for Eternal Good Fortune in War. This example saw very heavy use during the war, and from the amount of wear, we believe this to have been a battlefield pickup. The flag was framed during the period in a great custom-made “Bamboo” style frame, which adds some outstanding character to the piece. The frame was likely handmade by the soldier who captured the flag, though now there is tape keeping the flag in the frame.

Due to the very heavy wear and the crude nature of the signatures, we have been unable to translate the majority of the writing. There are some small words we could make out, but nothing we are confident in saying is the actual translation.

The frame measures 27 ½ x 33 ½” and is still in good shape though as mentioned tape is now holding the back of the frame in place. The flag itself is an interesting multi-piece example, with the white background made from two pieces of fabric and the red sun is itself a stitched piece of fabric. There is some tearing and staining from the period.

The flag is in fair but rough condition and is the real deal. The writing is still mostly legible, and in this outstanding custom frame, it will become a mainstay in any WWII collection. These are getting harder and harder to find in any condition.
