Original Japanese Meiji Period Second Pattern Civil Police Officer’s Short Sword with Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. A nice example of a Meiji Era (1868-1912) Civil Police Officer’s Sword of the Second Pattern. This is a very seldom found sword, which rarely come up available to market.

The sword is approximately 30” long overall, with a 21 1/2” blade. The grip is covered with rayskin and wrapped in brass wire. The blade still holds an edge, and shows signs of wear and light corrosion from years of handling and storage wear. The scabbard is oxidized, with a overall brownish cast in hue. The brass guard shows excellent patina, and the reverse side of the grip carries the symbol for the Japanese Police at that time.

This is an excellent example of a rare sword from the early years of Modern Japan! Ready for display!
