Original Item: Only One Item Available. This is a very nice original late-WWII Japanese Type 30 Arisaka rifle bayonet in the simplified “last ditch” configuration, complete with its original scabbard and leather frog. The bayonet displays the late-war features associated with simplified production, including a straight crossguard, one-piece rivet-retained wooden grip wrapping around the tang, and the final-style flat-sided rectangular pommel. The pommel is stamped with serial number 41867.
The ricasso bears arsenal and subcontractor markings indicating manufacture under the supervision of Kokura Arsenal. Older bayonet references identify the subcontractor represented by this marking simply as an unknown company under Kokura supervision, while later collector research commonly attributes the marking to Hikari Seiki Seisakusho. Because the manufacturer identification has evolved in the reference literature, Kokura-supervised production is the firmest attribution.
The Type 30 bayonet was introduced in 1897 and remained the principal Japanese service rifle bayonet through WWII. It was used with several Japanese military rifles, most notably the Type 38 and Type 99 Arisaka. Production continued for decades, resulting in numerous manufacturing variations as designs and production methods changed.
The original scabbard retains much of its finish with some loss near the tip. The original leather frog is in fair condition with heavy rubbing and minor material loss. The strap and buckle are still attached but there is some heavy wear.
The survival of the bayonet, scabbard, and leather frog together is particularly appealing, especially with the bayonet retaining the distinctly simplified fittings associated with the final stages of Japanese wartime production. The straight crossguard, one-piece riveted grip, rectangular pommel, serial number 41867, and Kokura-supervised arsenal marking collectively place this example within the late developmental sequence of the long-serving Type 30 pattern.
