Original Item: Only One Available. The Rising Sun Flag (旭日旗 Kyokujitsu-ki) design was originally used by feudal warlords in Japan during the Edo period. On May 15, 1870, as a policy of the Meiji government, it was adopted as the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army, and on October 7, 1889, it was adopted as the naval ensign of the Imperial Japanese Navy (Naval flags have the sun off center to the left), the sun in the center would be for Army use.
This is a very nice single-piece rising sun flag made from silk which is now extremely fragile. There is minor wear and a very small amount of color bleed in spots, but there isn’t any tearing and the color is great. There are two corner reinforcements which appear to be cotton separate pieces of silk, but they are weak and loose, with the tie strings now gone. The flag is in great overall condition, with a red "Sun" offset from the middle, with rays going out to the edge of the flag.
An outstanding example, ready to frame and display.
