  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous British-style pith helmet used by an officer of the Italian Anti-Aircraft Artillery in Africa during World War II. The helmet was painted white with a badge for the Anti-Aircraft Artillery attached to the front, which is now heavily worn with minor denting. The interior shows a now-worn silk lining and maker’s label for Unione Militare and a size stamp of 58

While it is hard not to see that the Italian Model 1928 helmet was at least highly influenced by the British Wolseley helmet, the Italian military also seemed taken by the Anglo-Indian Cawnpore helmet.

The leather sweatband is retained and is also embossed with the maker’s name, Unione Militare. The silk lining is now partially detached showing the red fabric lining underneath. The wire mesh vents are in good shape with the same white paint. There is heavy staining across the helmet from period use.

A beautiful Italian pith, ready for further research and display.
