Original Italian WWI Prima Armata 1st Army Commemorative Cross Medal by Fassino

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful Italian medal commemorating the service of the 1st Army during WWI. The medal has no significant damage and the enamel work/finish is retained very well. This is actually a beautiful medal! The 1st Army was a Royal Italian Army field army, in World War I, facing Austro-Hungarian and German forces, and in World War II, fighting on the North African front. During World War I, the 1st Army bore the responsibility of a long front from Stelvio Pass on the Swiss-Austrian Italian tri-border to the Asiago plateau. It successfully resisted the Austro-Hungarian Strafexpedition. Its sector was later reduced, limiting its role to the defense of the Trentino borders and the Verona area.

The Cross was instituted in 1924. Just like the majority of such crosses of the various Italian Units, it was produced by a number of different makers, in various designs while the recipients of the award had to purchase it themselves. This is the rare example by L. Fassino - A. Caly of Torino (Turin). The overall condition is quite nice and would be hard to upgrade from.

Comes more than ready for further research and display.
