  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a scarce original Italian WWI officer’s uniform consisting of a tunic and matching breeches attributed to a Sottotenente, or Second Lieutenant, serving with the Aosta Brigade. The brigade consisted of the 5th and 6th Infantry Regiments, and the distinctive red and black striped collar tabs identify the wearer’s unit affiliation. His rank is indicated by the single bullion stars on the cuffs.

The tunic is constructed with the characteristic concealed eight-button front closure, with the buttons fastening beneath the overlapping front flap rather than remaining exposed. All of the front buttons are retained, while one shoulder strap button is missing. The surviving buttons remain in good condition with areas of paint loss from age and use.

The tunic features slanted breast pockets and faux lower pocket flaps, with no functional pockets present at the waist. The collar retains its original single hook-and-loop closure. The exterior remains in good overall condition with only very minor mothing.

The interior shows honest period wear and bears a later-added United Costumers stamp. This marking suggests that the tunic entered theatrical or motion picture wardrobe use during the postwar period.

The included breeches match the tunic well and retain a stitched United Costumers identification tag on the interior, although the tag was never filled out. Their presence with the tunic further supports the likelihood that the set was later used as a film or theatrical costume. Both breech legs retain their hook-and-loop closures at the lower ends.

The red and black Aosta Brigade collar tabs, Sottotenente rank stars, concealed button front, and matching breeches make this a particularly appealing example of an Italian officer’s field uniform from WWI. The later United Costumers markings also add an interesting second chapter to the set’s history, documenting its probable use in the postwar entertainment industry.
