Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very niche model of sword, an Italian 1888 Cavalry Officer’s sword. This sword dates to the Pre-World War I period. Overall condition is fair, with heavy wear to the hilt and blade, with the blade appearing to have been worn down on one side, as the etching appears to be missing a bit at one end. The blade decoration is tremendous and quite detailed, but there is no maker’s mark. The crossguard is stamped 14.
The guard is heavily worn with loss of finish and minor oxidation, and the grip shows wear but is still present. The end of the guard which attaches at the pommel has come out of the pommel as shown, but it can be placed back in partially for display or it could be glued/welded.
The 33 1/2” blade is in fair condition but does appear to have been worn down on the sharp edge as some of the etching appears to be missing. The blade shows heavy wear but was kept well enough in its scabbard. The overall length is 39 1/8”.
The original scabbard shows heavy loss to the plating but is still intact with its two suspension rings. A very worn example but one that has survived a lot.
