Original Italian M1870 Vetterli Rifle “Truppi Speciali” Colonial Issue Cruciform Bladed Bayonet with Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an extremely rare colonial issue "Truppi Speciali" crucifom blade bayonet for use with the 10.4 mm. M1871 Vetterli and M1871/87 Vetterli-Vitali rifles. These are extremely rare, with few known examples. It features the same "long spring" and composition grip scales seen on the standard M1871 Sword bayonets for the Vetterli. For more information please see see The Bayonet Book by Watts and White, Page 194, Item 430.

The cruciform blade on this bayonet is 11 inches in length, with an overall length of 16 inches. There are various proof marks on the blade and crossguard, but no maker mark that we can identify. Condition of the blade and bayonet is good, though the hilt does show some light staining. The composition grips are in very good condition, with no cracks or dents, and the catch functions correctly.

The scabbard is brass mounted leather, and is in very good condition, still fitting the blade very well. The Brass fittings are in good condition, with a lovely glow, and have some proof marks stamped into them.

A very nice example of an extremely rare Italian Colonial issue bayonet, complete with scabbard and ready to display!
