Original Item: Only One Available. This is a most unusual mid 1850's brass hilted short sword bayonet, as used by Italian Bersaglieri ("Sharpshooters"). It is fitted with a double edged spear-point blade over 17" in length, and is just over 22" in overall length. The hilt design is very reminiscent of the British Brunswick bayonet, with a ribbed brass handle and cross-pin bayonet latch.
The bayonet comes complete with its brass mounted leather scabbard, which has held up quite well. These bayonets continued to be used into the late 19th century, fitted to M1868 Carcano Converted Rifles.
