Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting Indian axe which dates to the early 19th century. The shaft appears to be original, but it could also be a period replacement. The shaft has five small flower-shaped studs on each side which help to secure the long thin metal which protrudes through 12” of the shaft.
The length of the head of the axe measures approximately 5 inches with an edge width of 3 1/8 inches, while the handle is about 23 3/4 inches long. The handle has heavy wear but doesn’t have any structural damage we can find, with the long metal “wedge” still well-retained inside by the five brass studs on each side. The overall length including the spike is roughly 25¾”.
The head of the axe has gorgeous silver-inlay on both sides as well as on the back of the head, with lovely floral motifs. The top of the axe has a small spike and flower-shaped washer.
A gorgeous axe which retains its period shaft. Ready for display.
