Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. These are not only very unusual but extremely RARE. Known as a "MOGUL PATA" Swords, these date to the 17th Century starting in Northern India and were introduced by the Muslim Iranian "MOGULS", who took over most of India in the 1600s. Using original European well tempered blades, mostly dating from the 16th century and before, some blades may very well date from the times of Columbus or even earlier, to the late Crusades possibly.
Indo-Persian Armor is very characteristic, and this sword falls right into place in that it features an "Armored Gauntlet Guard", giving protection not only to the hand but also the forearm as well. This mogul pata featuers an unfullered double-edged blade of just 19 inches, mounted in its gauntlet hilt measuring almost 31 inches in overall length. This example very possibly started life with a much longer blade of maybe 30". It may have been broken in combat and then re-purposed to this very effective, easily maneuverable close combat weapon. A odd and unusual weapon by any standard.
Our example is very old and originates from a Museum Collection in Europe. It shows much use and honest wear from its possible 400 years of age. Very rare and very old, and original Mogul Pata Armored Gauntlet Sword!
