Original Item. Only One Available. This is an original Imperial Russian Naval 37mm Hotchkiss deck gun round dated 1913. The brass cartridge case bears Russian naval markings and acceptance stamps on the base, and the projectile is identified as an armor-piercing type. The complete inert round measures approximately 6⅜” long.

Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. The round measures 6 ⅜” with a 1 ¾” base diameter. The projectile is an armor-piercing type. The projectile is not currently removable from the casing. No attempt should be made to force the projectile free, as doing so could damage the case, projectile, or deactivation work.

The 37mm Hotchkiss gun was a widely used light naval and defensive weapon in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Guns of this caliber were used aboard warships for short-range defense and against small craft, and they remained in service into the WWI period. Imperial Russian naval forces employed Hotchkiss-pattern 37mm weapons aboard a variety of vessels, making dated ammunition such as this a useful representative example of prewar and wartime naval ordnance.

The 1913-dated case, Russian naval acceptance markings, fixed armor-piercing projectile, and complete assembled profile make this an especially interesting example of Imperial Russian naval ammunition from the period immediately preceding WWI. The inability to remove the projectile is correct for a round of this period, and the round remains complete in appearance and is well suited for study and display.
