Original Imperial Russian Model 1867 Krnka Conversion Infantry Rifle dated 1864 / 1870

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. These are so very rare! Developed by the CZECH Gun Designer SYLVESTER KRNKA in 1867, these conversions of the Russian 1857 Line Percussion Rifle were Officially adopted by the Imperial Army in 1869. The conversions from the Percussion ignition system to this breech Loading rifle were all carried out at the great Imperial arsenal at "TULA".

Our example has its original lock plate markings with manufacturer and date:

This most likely indicates manufacture at Weapons Arsenal Ishevsk (Ижевский Оружейный Завод), which had been founded in July of 1807, and by 1825 was the most modern arsenal in Russia. The barrel is dated with the conversion date of 1870. The new breech loading action is all of brass and bears many stamps and numbers. The barrel bands and other metal components are also marked. Otherwise the Rifle which is about 14mm is just as it was in 1864.

Condition of the rifle is good, with metalwork in solid condition, with a nice patina. The stock is solid, though it does have some past repairs. Bore shows lands and grooves, but unfortunately also has surface rust on a good portion. The breech, lock, and sight all function correctly.

The KRNKA was a contemporary of the British SNIDER ENFIELD and the French TABATIERE. Both of which are far more common. This is only the SECOND KRNKA IMA director Christian Cranmer has had, the first when he was 24 in London in 1969, which was unfortunately sold before the true value was realized.

The Rifle is in really nice cleaned condition ready to display.
