Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very scarce “Style 1” Japanese dirk from the World War II period, the first we have ever offered. This is a Japanese police (sergeant’s) dirk, circa 1900-1945. This example has a lovely wire-wrapped rayskin grip and an original scabbard with working scabbard lock. The backstrap of the hilt bears a lovely police flower emblem.
The dirk bears a 12 ¼” blade and is 16 ⅜” overall. The blade has been covered in cosmoline to keep it in good shape. There is some minor oxidation spotting. The hilt has a partial S shaped guard without a hole in the end that a sword knot would go through. It has a back strap with little decoration and a fairly flat plane without the "ears" and a circle found on Style 3 & Style 4 short sword back straps. The pommel is of a different shape than the Style 3 and Style 4 and does have a five point Japanese Police badge on the back of the pommel. There is no provision for a sword knot on the pommel of the dagger.
The scabbard measures 13 ⅛” and retains its hanging ring. There is minor denting.
A very rare example, ready for display.
