Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is a rather rare Imperial Japanese flag! This flag was most likely presented to an Imperial Japanese Army Officer who retired and became a member of the Kaikisha. Kaikosha is a Japanese organization of retired military servicemen whose membership is open to former commissioned officers of the JASDF and JGSDF as well as commissioned officers, warrant officers, officer cadets, and high-ranking civil servants who served in the Imperial Japanese Army.
The original Kaikosha was founded before World War II as an organization exclusively of active-duty commissioned officers and warrant officers in the Imperial Japanese Army for mutual aid, friendship, and academic research, but was re-founded after the war to represent formerly high-ranking army officials.
The organization's name means “let’s go together” or “we shall fight this war side by side,” and derives from a line in an old Chinese poem recorded in the Book of Odes.
This is a rare WWII Imperial Japanese flag for Veteran Group 13, O Oka Branch, Yokohama City. The beautiful red and white flag depicts the Rising Sun in the center, a navy blue anchor and chain with crossed artillery behind, and a five point star in the top corner. Below, shows a section of Japanese kanji in navy blue detail. Two corners are reinforced with gold painted leather and large, steel grommets. The full outer edge of the flag features thick, satin tassels.
The flag shows minor wear and light soiling, the painted leather is in excellent condition, the tassels seem to be fully intact, overall excellent condition.
A lovely example ready for further research and display.
