Original Item. Only One Available. While major Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) and Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) contracts favored standard field configurations (such as 6x30, 7x50, or specialized larger bridge/trench optics), smaller pocket or compact prisms like Lyra were sometimes privately purchased by officers. This is a great set of 8x21 binoculars in their original carry case, marked to the front with two Kanji characters, likely a name. The binoculars themselves are broken, but sit fine for display.
The binoculars are marked on the left barrel:
LYRA
8x21
No 7706
The binoculars body is broken and will come apart if handled improperly. The eyepieces are similarly not connected entirely. It will still sit okay for display. The optics are very blurry.
The carry case retains the carry strap and a spring-loaded securing strap which is missing some of the leather covering.
The combination of the LYRA marking, 8x21 compact optical configuration, serial number 7706, carrying case with two Japanese Kanji characters, surviving shoulder strap, and spring-loaded closure makes this an interesting Japanese WWII-era optical set. The broken binocular body, loose eyepieces, blurry optics, and missing leather from part of the case closure are the principal condition concerns, while the possible named case provides the strongest avenue for further identification research.
