Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent WWII Japanese military flashlight signal light in fully working condition. To operate the user flips the hand crank out, turns it several times, then flips the switch on the side, which starts the dynamo turning. Push the button on the light itself and it shines brightly. It doesn't cast much of a beam but it is enough to send signals. These lights were also commonly used by Japanese tank crews in the small dark confines of Armored vehicles.
This example still turns on, but there isn’t much of a light at all, with the coil lighting up but that’s about it. It is a miracle that this is working at all!
The interior is a metal case inside which is covered with heavy khaki-colored web canvas. Japanese kanji can be seen on the bakelite case of the light itself and on the interior lid. Inside the lid are leather loops that hold two spare bulbs which are intact on this set, a screwdriver (not included), and a nickel plated screw off tool (not included).
Leather flap closure is complete but the leather tie down strap is broken, crank handle keeper present as well as the full web sling. The kanji underneath the lid reads 昭 十 六, for SHOWA (current reigning emperor) Juu-Roku Nen (16th year of reign - 1941).
A very interesting fully functional hand crank light that still turns on, that will become the centerpiece of any Japanese field gear collection.
