  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very interesting original Imperial Japanese auxiliary field telephone handset and communications accessory set, manufactured by Anritsu Electric Co., Ltd. and dated May 1938. The compact set is housed in a fitted leather carrying case and includes a nickel-finished handset, spare mouthpiece or transmitter component, associated signaling apparatus, connecting cord and plug, and an intact leather carrying sling.

The set is considerably smaller than a conventional Japanese field telephone and appears to have been intended as ancillary communications equipment used in conjunction with a larger field-telephone installation.

The set is mostly devoid of markings except when you remove the large box in the one compartment, which reveals a data plate to the side denoting manufacture by Anritsu Electric Co. although this translation may not be exact. Under this is the date of manufacture, translating to Showa 13, Month 5, for May 1938, very early!

Attached to the handset is a separate smaller cord with a plug device to attach to the conventional Field Telephone unit.

The leather case is very sound with belt loops on the reverse and an intact leather sling that is still pliable. There is some wear to the leather especially in the straps which hold the lids. The set measures 9 ½ x 2 ¼ x 6 ½”.

The combination of the Anritsu Electric maker plate, clear May 1938 date, compact fitted leather case, nickel-finished handset, plug connector, associated signaling device, and surviving original sling makes this an unusually complete example of prewar Imperial Japanese military communications equipment.
