  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition original WWII Japanese Army type 98 tropical sun pith helmet. It still retains a wonderful form with internal bamboo wicker construction. Comes with original pentagonal bevo style cloth embroidered army star insignia to the front, which is in great condition. The helmet has the original suspension system and original chinstrap.

This example is well marked with original labels inside bearing Japanese kanji characters. One of these is marked with the date 昭 和 十 六 年. This would be read: SHOWA (current reigning emperor) Juu-Hachi Nen (16th year of reign - 1941). This is the earliest example we have ever had, and it is in great shape for being so early.

The condition does show wear consistent with service and storage, but it has held up very well overall without any serious flaws. The exterior has some very light staining, but there is no wear to the yellow star on the front of the helmet. The interior retains the color well. The lower suspension band is present with a working buckle which has some oxidation which has stained the strap around it. It has a complete functional chin strap.

A very nice WWII Japanese jungle pith helmet for your WWII collection. Ready to display!
