Original Imperial Japanese Army WWII Type 98 Sun Helmet Dated 1942- CRUSHED

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original WWII Japanese Army type 98 tropical sun pith helmet. It no longer retains its internal wicker form, unfortunately it was crushed at some point. Comes with original pentagonal bevo style cloth embroidered army star insignia to the front. Helmet has part of the original suspension system and original chinstrap.

This example is well marked with original labels inside bearing Japanese kanji characters. One of these is marked with the date 昭和十七年. This would be read: SHOWA (current reigning emperor) Juu-Nana Nen (17th year of reign - 1942). There is also an “M” stamped on the right side where the chinstrap attaches.

The condition does show wear consistent with service and storage. The exterior has some staining, and there is wear to the yellow star on the front of the helmet. The interior retains the color well, with some discoloration around the brim. The lower suspension band is missing, though the upper string is still present. It has a complete functional chin strap.

A very nice WWII Japanese jungle pith helmet for your WWII collection. Ready to display!
