  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is an interesting example of an M-1895 Imperial Prussian Line Infantry enlisted man's Mannschaften (other ranks or EM / NCO) pickelhaube which appears to have been converted to an M1915 helmet. The M1895 was the final pre-1914 evolution in a long series of spiked helmets. It has a good condition oxide-plated steel Prussian spread eagle helmet plate and comes complete with supple original leather liner. The spike on top denotes infantry issue and the helmet retains both cockades and the original chinstrap.

This helmet features an oxide plated steel frontplate (wappen), and the crown of this leather helmet displays a vented enlisted removable spike mounted on a steel baseplate, which is seized and no longer able to be removed. There is also a small adjustable vent on the spine that supports the rear skirt, only seen on the enlisted helmets, which is able to be moved still with some force. The front wappen features a crowned Prussian state eagle clutching a scepter, though the the right side foot and orb are broken off. The banner across the chest bears the King's motto, MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND (With God for King and Country, i.e. Prussia). The wappen is missing both of the leather wedges and is loose, but thankfully it is partially kept in place by the chinstrap. It is also missing one of the two metal loops.

It retains both Kokarden for the German National Colors (red white and black) and Prussian (black and white). The chinstrap is an original example, extremely rare to find in any condition.

The original leather liner is intact but shows heavy wear, with some tearing as shown. The rear visor has several markings including:

    J.R. 20 H.B.
    1898

We believe this to denote service in the Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 20, with the H.B. denoting Howitzer Battery. Next to this is another stamp, 1899, and further down is a painted number 2 and stamp 59, for the size.

The interior shell has F.A.R. 10 stamped directly into the leather. This would denote Field Artillery Regiment 10.

This is a very interesting M1895 Pickelhaube transformed into an M1915, ready for further research and display.
