Original Item. Only One Available. This is a tremendous and scarce set of WWI German Rabbit Ear binoculars, the first set of this variation we have offered. This is a very small set of rabbit ears, perhaps the smallest we have encountered. They are very well-marked between the ears to Carl Zeiss of Jena. The serial number, 562411, dates them to around production year 1915-16.
They are in good condition with crystal clear vision and easy focus, although it appears the set has been repainted at one point, albeit cleanly. The leather lanyard is complete and in good order as is the wooden handle. The set retains its original neck strap although it is very weak and close to breaking. The name DALY is scratched into the set, possibly the soldier who captured the set. They measure 9 3/4" inches long, with a 7" handle on the bottom, giving an overall length of 16 1/4" inches.
The original and scarce case also retains its original carrying strap, which is very difficult to find! Better yet, the original tension-spring tab is intact as well, which secures the case closed. The case measures approximately 10 1/2"H x 5"W x 4 1/2"D.
A really phenomenal set, ready for further research and display!
