Original Items. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very unique trench art set, two artillery shell splinters which have been converted into a meat carving set, including a carving fork & knife. This 1916-dated custom-made set has a great deal of character that is unlike any other piece of trench art we have offered!
They both have a different set of initials, J.C. on the carving knife, and G.A. on the carving fork. The shells have been grinded down & smithed into carving tools, likely done by a professional blacksmith during the war. Just above the initials are an iron cross with 19/14/15/16 on the 4 points of each, dating the set to 1916. The set has a very attractive patina that is concurrent throughout both examples, so neither has been sharpened or cleaned in the past hundred or so years. Both the knife and fork are 11” long.
