Original Imperial German WWI Prussian Pole Swallowtail Guidon with Painted Insignia - 14 x 29”

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous WWI Prussian guidon, possibly meant for an Uhlan or Hussar regiment, with gorgeous hand-painted Coat of Arms of Prussia, depicting an Eagle with FR on its chest, for Fridericus Rex, or "King Frederick". The Prussian state eagle is clutching a scepter and crown. This was also part of the Prussian “Wappen” plate worn on Pickelhaubes. The coat of arms is hand-painted on both sides of the guidon, which measures roughly 14 x 29”.
The guidon is a swallowtail. A basic guidon can be rectangular, but more often has a triangular portion removed from the fly (known as "swallow-tailed"). The guidon has a header which has six stitched holes meant for affixation to a pole. We are unsure where exactly this would have been used, but it is certainly of the period, and we have found some reproduction examples which utilize the same design.
The guidon is in great shape overall without extensive damage anywhere. The guidon has fantastic patina across, with the paint being aged very well.
This is a fantastic period example, ready for further research and display.
