Item Description
Original Item: Only one available. This is a very nice Great War Imperial German Field Cap (Feldmütze or Krätzche). This is a private purchase example, manufactured by one of the German tailors who privately produced these during the war. It is constructed of grey/green "Felgrau" wool with red cap band and red piping along with an interior beige-patterned lining. The front of the cap bears a Black, White and Red Reichskokarde (Imperial Cockade) on the front of the crown, with a White and Black cockade for Prussia.
The cap is in very good service-used condition, with the expected wear and tear from having been through The Great War. There is some light moth damage, and slight discoloration, but it still presents very well. Being a private purchase example, there are no issue or unit markings, and this example has a lovely Moroccan leather sweatband, which we never see on Mutzes. The stitching of the cockades is entirely period, and this is a true one-looker that will fit well in any Imperial German collection. The red fabric glows under a UV light, but this is correct for a private purchase example due to the dyes used, which are UV-reactive. This is also why many dyes are so prone to fading in the light.
Size is approximately US 7 (56cm). A wonderful textbook genuine example!
