Original Imperial German WWI Model 1889 Prussian Infantry Officer Sword with Scabbard

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition Imperial German Model 1889 Infantry Officer sword and scabbard, by the Solingen-based firm of Paul Weyersberg & Co. The hilt is a gilded brass D shape fold away guard with the Imperial German eagle of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The grip is brass wire bound over sharkskin with a brass cypher of the Kaiser in the center. The wire is in good shape. This model of sword would often have a leather fore finger loop on the inside of the guard, however this is now missing.
The straight blade is in very good condition and has a double fuller on each side and is 33 7/8” from the spear point to the hilt. The nickel plate is heavily worn away from cleaning and sharpening, if there ever was plating to begin with. Overall length of the sword is 39 5/8”. A buff felt washer is fitted to the blade where it meets the guard.
The spine is faintly stamped with a name which may be Weyersberg, which could indicate manufacture by Paul Weyersberg & Co of Solingen. We have not seen this marking before, however.
The steel scabbard has a single hanging ring, as the second fitting was for a hook on the hanger. It has the standard black enamel finish, which has heavily worn off as shown, and the underlying steel has oxidized. The scabbard is mostly straight but there is some denting.
Overall condition is very good. Ready to display!
