Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful condition Imperial German Model 1889 Infantry Officer sword and scabbard, with a very nice nickel plated blade. The hilt is a gilded brass D shape fold away guard with the Imperial German eagle of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The grip is triple twisted brass wire bound over shark skin, with a brass cypher of the Kaiser in the center. The grip is in very good condition, and still tight to the tang. This example does not retain the leather "finger loop" directly under the cross guard.
The nickel plated straight blade is in very good condition and has a double fuller on each side and is 30.5 inches from the spear point to the hilt. The nickel plate is retained very well and unsharpened, this is a dress blade and was never intended for actual use. Overall length of the sword is 38.5 inches. There is no blade buffer present. There is no maker marking on the blade ricasso, but this was not uncommon, as often unmarked raw blades were purchased by retailers, and then custom fit for the purchaser.
The steel scabbard has a single hanging ring, as was standard. It has a very nice black enamel finish, which has flaked off in some areas, and the underlying steel has oxidized. There is a bend in the scabbard just above the drag.
Overall condition is very good. Ready to display!
