  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful condition Imperial German Model 1889 Infantry Officer sword and scabbard. The hilt is a gilded brass D shape fold away guard with the Imperial German eagle of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The grip is brass wire bound over ray or sharkskin with a brass cypher of the Kaiser in the center. This model of sword would often have a leather fore finger loop on the inside of the guard, however this is now missing, though the retaining screw is still present. Also due to this the grip ferrule is a bit loose.

The nickel plated straight blade is in excellent condition and has a double fuller on each side and is 33 inches from the spear point to the hilt. Overall length of the sword is 39 inches. A white buff leather washer is fitted to the blade where it meets the guard. There are no markings anywhere on the sword, typical of a bespoke piece for an officer. The quality of the construction is undeniably top quality German craftsmanship.

The blued steel scabbard has a single hanging ring, as the second fitting was for a hook on the hanger. The scabbard is mostly straight, though it does have a number of dents on both sides, which do not interfere with placing the blade in the scabbard.

Overall condition is very good to excellent. Ready to display!
