Original Item: Only One Available. Commonly referred to as a "walking out" Bayonet, this edged weapon was never designed to actually fit on any rifle even the Mauser 1871 model after which it is named.
This is a lovely Dress or Parade Bayonet, worn only on ceremonial occasions and when going on leave. These usually have a higher quality finish than the issue M-71 Bayonet, and this example has a lovely etched blade. There are panels on both sides showing stands of arms, foliate designs, and more. The darkening in the panels has however worn, so it can be hard to see the etching. As is correct the bayonet's blade is fully blunt.
The hilt is not inlet for any type of mounting hardware, as is correct, and the brass crossguard has the usual "S" shape seen on these parade bayonets. There is still a leather felt blade buffer next to the crossguard, which also has a very interesting regimental marking: 83. A. 1. 53.. This would be for the 83rd Artillery Regiment, the 83rd (3rd Rhenish) Field Artillery, which was only raised on 1 October 1912. Condition is very good, with a lovely patina on the brass, and a mostly bright finish on the blade.
The bayonet comes in good quality brass mounted leather scabbard and is a fine example with probably 125 years of age to it. It has shrunk a bit over time and is quite stiff, however it still correctly fits the blade with no issues.
Overall a good condition bayonet with some great display potential!
