Original Item: Only One Available. This is a well-preserved Imperial German WWI M1910-pattern Feldgrau Schirmmütze visor cap from the Kingdom of Saxony, of a type that may have been worn by an officer or NCO. The cap features a field-gray wool body with a bright red wool centerband and matching red piping along the upper edge of the crown. This branch-colored configuration is typical of early wartime field-gray visor caps and is especially striking on this example, with the red wool retaining strong, vivid color against the darker Feldgrau body.
The front retains both of its metal cockades. Positioned on the upper portion of the crown is the German national Reichskokarde in the Imperial colors, while the cockade centered on the red band displays the distinctive green and white colors associated with the Kingdom of Saxony. The Saxon cockade retains considerable color and detail despite age toning to the metal. Together with the red band and piping associated with infantry branch colors, these elements indicate its regimental and state affiliation within the Imperial German system.
The black visor is still securely attached to the cap, exhibiting only light surface creasing and minimal wear to its finish. The wool exterior is remarkably well preserved, showing little to no evidence of moth damage for an item of this age. Most importantly, the cap has retained an excellent period shape, with a broad, well-formed crown and strong definition to both the red piping and the centerband.
The interior retains its brown leather sweatband and gray cloth lining. Both show wear, including darkening, staining, scattered spotting, and wear to the leather surface. There is also a dark circular stain or impression toward the front of the lining. A faint handwritten notation is visible inside the crown, although it is not sufficiently clear to offer a confident transcription.
The cap is a complete example of Saxon Imperial German headgear, retaining strong originality and the honest age and wear that give it the character expected of a genuine period piece.
