Original Item: Only One Available. Very nice condition genuine WW1 German Kaiserliche Marine sailor’s Tellermütze “Donald Duck” hat. These caps were worn by all Junior NCO’s and enlisted men. This is a private purchase example and does not look to have had an internal crown stiffening wire. The tallies are present. The front reads "Deutschland" The size of the hat is approximate a 54cm (6 3/4).
The interior lining is marked with the logo of a maker in Hamburg, Germany. Due to heavy wear, the name of the maker is difficult to identify. The original sweatband is well-retained with period stitching and there looks to be a museum tag on the sweatband. The lettering of the cap talley shows heavy wear and loss.
Deutschland could either refer to the SMS Deutschland, the first of five Deutschland-class pre-dreadnought battleships built for the Kaiserliche Marine, or the submarine Deutschland, a blockade-breaking German merchant submarine used during World War I. Could use further research!
Comes ready for further research and display.
