  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a rather lovely Bavarian officer’s court sword manufactured by the prestigious firm of Mohr & Speyer of Berlin, suppliers of the Berlin Court. The sword has heavy verdigris across the hilt with a brass lion’s head pommel and mother of pearl grip inlaid with a Bavarian crown motif to one side.

The original troddel knot is still attached with bullion crowns stitched onto both sides of the throat, though about half of this bullion is now gone. The blade is etched with the Bavarian motto “In Treue Fest” surrounded by decorative border and foliage. The blade has very heavy oxidation and wear with the etching now very faint. The original brass-bound leather scabbard is in good order with some bending.

    The ricasso is etched:

    MOHR & SPEYER
    BERLIN

The 30 ¾” blade bears the motto IN TREUE FEST surrounded by decorative border and foliage on both sides, though the blade now has very heavy oxidation across its length with some edge chipping and staining. The entire sword has a very heavy patina as shown. The overall length is 36”. The hilt has a heavy brass chape to one side with a lion and foliage, also covered in verdigris. The blade buffer is gone but the hilt is tight.

The 31” scabbard is in good condition with heavy wear and minor bending to the leather. The leather has shrunken a bit so it doesn’t completely fit over the ricasso. The brass drag and throat are well-retained though the frog button is a bit bent.

The gold tape troddel knot is still well-attached at the guard, and the bullion knot looks great minus the loss of bullion on the crowns. Very difficult to find so complete like this!

An outstanding but well-used Bavarian court sword by a well-known Berlin maker, ready for further research and display.
