Original Item. Only One Available. This is an excellent original Imperial German WWI-era Rosenthal porcelain desk ornament depicting a German Stahlhelm resting above a sword, mounted on a small rectangular porcelain base. The base measures approximately 3 ⅛ x 5 ⅛ inches, and the piece stands roughly 1 ⅞ inches tall. Its subject matter and maker markings place it firmly within Rosenthal’s wartime art-porcelain production.
It is marked on the back:
Rosenthale
Kunst-Abreilung
Selb Bavaria
Entwurt von
Ferdinand Liebermann
This indicates that it was manufactured by the renowned Rosenthal porcelain factory in Selb, Bavaria, and was designed by Entwurt von Ferdinand Liebermann.
This is a particularly interesting piece of Imperial German wartime decorative porcelain, combining a distinctly military Stahlhelm-and-sword motif with production by Rosenthal’s Selb Art Department and a direct design attribution to sculptor Ferdinand Liebermann. The clearly marked base gives the ornament considerably more research value than an unmarked patriotic desk piece and firmly connects it with one of Germany’s best-known porcelain manufacturers.
