  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very interesting original Imperial German WWI-era officer’s cloak or mantle, constructed from heavy deep gray wool with a contrasting dark blue collar backed in red. The garment was intended to be worn over the uniform as a substantial cold-weather outer layer and is of the large, privately tailored type commonly associated with officers.

Imperial German officers were generally responsible for privately purchasing much of their uniform clothing, and surviving officer cloaks and greatcoats therefore show considerable variation in material, tailoring, lining, and collar construction.

The clock is very large with two interior pockets held in by a button. There is a five button closure at the front as shown, with attachment buttons under the collar as well. The interior is partially lined in gray.

The combination of the heavy gray wool body, dark blue collar with red backing, five-button front, interior buttoned pockets, partial gray lining, and officer-quality construction makes this an interesting surviving example of German military outerwear from the early 20th century. The absence of insignia or tailor markings limits a more precise attribution, but the garment remains a substantial and research-worthy example of period officer clothing.
