Original Item. Only One Available. Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg (2 October 1847 – 2 August 1934), usually shortened to Paul von Hindenburg, was a German field marshal and statesman who led the Imperial German Army during World War I. He later became president of Germany from 1925 until his death. During his presidency, he played a key role in the NSDAP seizure of power in January 1933 when, under pressure from his advisers, he appointed Adolf H as chancellor of Germany.
This is an outstanding bronze statue of Paul von Hindenburg on a marble base, dating to the WWI era. The bust measures 9” tall, and the base measures 2⅜ x 2¾”. The base of the bronze itself is stamped with the name Schmidt-Felling, identifying the sculptor as Julius Paul Schmidt-Felling. Hindenburg himself is now loose to the bronze base as the rod in his left foot is broken. This just means that he spins a bit, but he should sit fine for display.
Julius Paul Schmidt-Felling (1835–1920) was a German sculptor who worked during the mid-to-late 19th century and early 20th century. The subject matter of his work was wide and varied. He produced, among others, bronze statues of heroic warriors, athletes, blacksmiths, and farmers. A number of his sculptures of young children were in the Dutch colonial style, some being whimsical in nature.
Despite the damage, this is a very attractive statue that will complement any German collection. Ready for display.
