Original Item: One-of-a-Kind. This is an original Imperial German WWI Bavarian remembrance certificate issued to commemorate fallen infantryman Georg Christ. Certificates of this type were presented to the families of Bavarian soldiers who died during the war, serving as both an official memorial and a lasting tribute to the individual soldier.

The certificate depicts a Bavarian soldier standing beside a comrade’s grave marker, represented by a cross decorated with wreaths and a Bavarian colored bow. The date 1914 appears at the upper left, with 1916 at the upper right. Five printed lines on the left side were provided for the fallen soldier’s personal and military information.

The inscription identifies Georg Christ as an infantryman serving with the 4th Company of Brigade Ersatz Battalion 9. It records his date of death as March 4, 1915. The right side bears the year 1916 and a memorial inscription translating approximately as, “Honor to his memory, an example and role model to future generations.”

The certificate measures approximately 22 ½ x 25 inches. It shows overall age and handling wear, including tearing along the right side, additional tears and losses around the edges, and scattered staining. Despite these condition issues, the printed colors remain well retained and the central artwork and soldier’s information are clearly visible.

This is a poignant and visually impressive Imperial German memorial document, retaining the identity, unit information, and date of death of a specific Bavarian soldier. Properly framed, it would make a compelling addition to a WWI German document, Bavarian military, or battlefield remembrance collection.
