Original Imperial German WWI Bavarian EM/NCO M1895 Pickelhaube Spiked Helmet - Dated 1902 & 1913

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice condition Imperial Bavarian line Infantry enlisted man's Mannschaften (other ranks) pickelhaube. The M1895 was the final pre-1914 evolution in a long series of spiked helmets. It displays lovely condition brass Bavarian coat of arms helmet plate and comes complete with worn original leather liner. The spike on top denotes infantry issue.

The helmet features a Bayern Wappen (front plate) with the motto IN TREUE FEST which means “Steadfast in Loyalty”. This was the motto of the Kingdom of Bavaria (1805–1918) and of its Wittelsbach rulers, after the end of World War I used by Bavarian monarchists. The motto originates as that of the Order of Saint Hubert of the Dukes of Jülich and Berg, rendered in 15th-century Lower Franconian as in traw vast.

The helmet is missing both of the original cockades and the chinstrap. The original liner is present and in fair condition, showing light wear from age and use. There is some wear around the bottom edge on the sides, but they are all in good condition. The top tie strap is present and still goes through every tongue.

The exterior of the helmet shell is in good shape, with very little change to the shape, and the black leather still exhibits a nice sheen. There are areas of cracking and checking, but they just serve to add to the lovely patina of age. The front and rear visors are still quite well attached to the helmet with much of the stitching still present.

The rear visor is well-marked with 8.J.R. for the 8th Infantry Regiment, along with two dates, 1902 and 1913 for when the helmet was likely depot-repaired.

Overall a very nice condition Imperial German Bavarian pickelhaube, perfect for any WWI collection!
