Original Item. Only One Available. This is a now extremely-scarce accessory for your Mauser C96 Broomhandle pistol, a detachable wooden stock. The most distinctive characteristic of the C96 was its wooden shoulder stock which can double as a holster or carrying case and a grip shaped like the handle of a broom. This piece will truly complete your C96, giving it the iconic look that all collectors strive for. This example is special in that the lid is stamped Wn (Eagle) 16, denoting Austrian inspection & issue in 1916. Only 50,000 wartime commercial C96 pistols were sold to Austria-Hungary from 1915-1917.

The stock, which measures 14 x 4⅛ x 1⅞”, is in outstanding condition, with the wood having been lacquered/preserved long ago, giving it a gorgeous dark color. The button to open the stock still works great without any play. There is a small German proof under the hinge on the back, as these and the pistols would have both German and Austrian proofs. The small metal endpiece that slides into the backstrap of the pistol is marked with the serial number 708, which would have been the last three digits of the serial number of the pistol it was paired with, and with the Austrian Unit marking LFA 998. Research shows this denotes issue to Luft Fahr Arsenal 998, or the Austro-Hungarian Air Force Arsenal 998.

The only issue with the stock that we can see is a crack in the lid which appears to have been repaired long ago. It does not look to have caused any structural damage.

This is an outstanding artifact, the first original C96 wooden stock we have offered, with great research potential considering the Austrian Air Force unit marking! Comes ready for additional research and display!
