  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great WWI period German artillery crate meant to store and transport Howitzer detonators. The crate has fantastic markings and several tags which denote the manufacturer of the detonators as the infamous toy maker turned war maker Gebrüder Bing A.G. of Nuremberg. They produced many war materials from trench lanterns to the extremely scarce Tin Ersatz Pickelhaube helmets, as well as artillery detonators.

Unfortunately, the crate only retains one of its carrying ropes, the other being absent. The crate measures 17 x 17 x 7½” and has a beautiful securing system, which has a long metal bar which must travel through a narrow D-ring to open the crate. Both of these latches are embossed with G.M.446132, likely a patent code or part number. There are several labels which bear the G.B.N. logo of Gebrüder Bing, making this a scare piece in its own right for that alone. Another label translates to Tightly packed and airtight! Ready to use!

Definitely one of the most beautiful WWI crates we have encountered! Comes ready for further research and display.
