Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Imperial German WWI 1/4 Liter cup, made from steel which was then covered with porcelain enamel. This was the standard material that many WWI Canteens, mess kits, and other items were made from. It is sturdy and corrosion proof, as long as the porcelain is intact. It also ensured that the water or other contents would not be contaminated, and would be fit for consumption. Unfortunately any type of dent or blow can cause chipping, which is why by WWII, most countries had moved to materials that would not easily corrode.
The cup itself measures 3 3/4"H x 4 1/2"W (including handle) x 2 1/4", and is marked on the side with 1/4 L. in a paint stamp, indicating the capacity. The bottom of the cup is marked Sing / 17, giving the maker and date. It has a very nice "ear" shaped handle, with a pour spout on the other side, so we assume this was some type of measure for cooking, coffee, or something similar. It could be used as a drinking cup, but that is definitely not its ideal function.
The condition is very good, especially for being 100 years old, and it has only light chipping in the enamel, with some dirt and oxidation on the exterior. A very nice example, ready to display!
