Original Item. Only One Available. This is a mid-19th Century sword by the maker Peter Knecht of Solingen, as is engraved on the spine of the blade. The sword features a branched hilt with twisted brass wire-wrapped leather grip. The blade is straight and comes complete with its original scabbard.
The 34” straight blade has a small fuller across its first ¾, with evidence of past oxidation having been cleaned away. The spine is engraved P. Knecht in Solingen, for a known maker of the period who also manufactured blades for swords on both sides of the American Civil War.
The hilt shows a lovely patina with a branched guard and well-retained leather grip. The twisted wire is well-retained as well.
The original 36½” scabbard doesn’t have any serious denting but there are a few small dents. Both suspension rings are retained and it has a lovely overall patina.
This is a very interesting German sword from the mid-19th century worthy of further research. Comes ready to display.
