Original Item. Only One Available. This is an original German Saxony Model 1867 Infantry Officer’s Sword with typical decorated brass hilt comprising the royal coat of arms of the State of Saxony to the guard. Most examples of this model have a folding guard, so this is likely an earlier example. The grip is wire-wrapped sharkskin, and the blade has a deeply engraved royal cypher.
The 31 ⅝” blade is triple-fullered on both sides, with the etching EISENHAUER GARANTIRT / HAST & UHTHOFF. DRESDEN on one side in the center. This means “Iron Cutting Guarantee”. One side of the ricasso bears the Royal Cypher of Saxony, and the other side bears the double trademark "Knight's Helmet" (Ritter-helm) alongside a "Kings's Head" (königskopf) over W.K.C. logo of legendary German maker Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie of Solingen. This company is a famous manufacturer of military swords and cutlery in Solingen, Germany - a city famous since the middle ages for its metal-working and craftsmanship in sword making.
The overall length of the sword is 37½”. The all-steel scabbard measures 34” and retains much of its black paint although there is scattered oxidation.
A very scarce Saxon officer’s sword, ready for display.
