Original Item. Only One Available. This is a lovely Pre-WWI era Imperial German officer’s sword manufactured by Clemen & Jung with great triple-etching and a filigreed guard.
The blade measures 30 ¾” and retains the felt blade buffer. The etching is deep and mostly retained with areas of surface oxidation and wear.
The ricasso of the blade is marked with "Crowned Z Shield" trademark over C&J for Clemen & Jung Waffenfabrik (Weapons Factory) of Solingen, the legendary "City of Blades" in the mountains of Western Germany. This company was founded in 1860, and rapidly gained numerous domestic and foreign contracts for edged weapons. They entered the Solingen Commercial Register in 1876, and in 1898 registered the "Crowned Shield" logo, which has the letter Z inside the shield. This previously had been another maker's trademark, but it was transferred to Clemen & Jung. The company supplied many edged weapons for the First World War, and continued during the interwar period, and into the Third Reich period. For more information please see GERMAN KNIFE AND SWORD MAKERS by J. Anthony Carter, pages 132-134.
The handle is wire-wrapped sharkskin and is mostly retained with areas of loss in the middle. The leather finger loop is gone, but there are remnants of it. The overall length is 36 ⅛”
The scabbard measures 31 ¾” and is in good shape with some denting as shown. There is wear to the finish but it’s a good example overall with the hanging ring retained.
Overall a very good condition high quality Imperial German Officer’s Sword by a well-known Solingen maker. Ready to hang on the wall!
