Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very interesting Imperial German short sword, which could possibly be a police short sword. The blade is 18” long with an overall length of 22⅞”. The blade retains some of its original etching but it is very faint, and there is no maker’s mark we could find. The sword may be a cut-down, but we aren’t sure what the sword would have originally been either.
The sword has a wire-wrapped leather grip which is well-retained. There is an original sword knot wrapped around the guard of the sword, which appears to have always been present.
The 17¾” scabbard is actually smaller than the blade, but this could be due to leather shrinkage. The more likely answer is that the blade and scabbard were cut down at one point. The frog knot of the scabbard is acorn-shaped, and the leather shows heavy damage with loss of stitching.
A very interesting Imperial German sword, ready for further research and display.
