Original Items: Very Few Available. Just purchased at a resent military show! This is something that we really haven't seen before, a Pre-WWI design Imperial German Medic Feldflasche (Field Flask or Canteen). It is similar to the early M1907 pattern aluminum canteens, however it lacks the sturdy reinforced nozzle end. Soon after the start of WWI, the scarcity of the aluminum led to it being replaced with steel canteens.
This canteen is quite large, measuring 10" long, 6" wide, and 3 1/2" deep, with a capacity probably 2-2.5 liters. Canteens this big were only carried by medical personnel, who definitely had a need for the larger amount of water, both for washing wounds and for giving water to injured soldiers. It has the standard German style felt cover with snaps, which has some lovely personalization on the front of it, which unfortunately cannot read. Condition is quite good, though the leather carry strap is in delicate condition, having been repaired multiple times.
This would make a great addition to any WW1 Collection, and has plenty of research potential. Ready to display!
