Original Item. Only One Available. Lohengrin is a character in German Arthurian literature. The son of Parzival (Percival), he is a knight of the Holy Grail sent in a boat pulled by swans to rescue a maiden who can never ask his identity. His story, which first appears in Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival, is a version of the Knight of the Swan legend known from a variety of medieval sources. Wolfram's story was expanded in two later romances. Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin of 1848 is based upon the legend.
This is an outstanding ceramic wall plaque depicting the character Lohengrin holding the maiden he is associated with in his stories. The plaque measures 7 ¼ x 12 ⅜” and is signed FROCK in the bottom right corner. At the top left reads:
WALKÜRE
III AUFZ.
The characters are in white while the rest of the plaque is painted green. We found another example with lots of different colors, showing the bottom left being a fire that Lohengrin is putting out.
The back of the plaque is marked with a 12 and then 2737. There is what looks to be a paperclip jury-rigged so that it could be hung, but something better could be attached. Thankfully there is no chipping or missing material to be seen.
