Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a gorgeous likely bronze bust of Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke the Elder. The chief of staff of the Prussian Army for thirty years, he is regarded as the creator of a new, more modern method of directing armies in the field and one of the finest military minds of his generation. He commanded troops in Europe and the Middle East, in the Second Schleswig War, Austro-Prussian War, and Franco-Prussian War. He is described as embodying "Prussian military organization and tactical genius".
The bust sits atop a lovely ornate base. The entire piece measures roughly 12¼” tall, and the base is 4 ¼ x 4 ¼”. Von Moltke is depicted in uniform wearing his “Blue Max” or Pour le Mérite. He wears braided shoulder boards, and appears wrapped in a cape or cowl.
An outstanding bust of a very important figure in German history, ready for further research and display.
