Original Imperial German Framd Painting of Helmuth Von Moltke the Elder - Field Marshal - Dated 1910 - 7⅛ x 5⅜”

Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a gorgeous small framed painting of Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke the Elder. The chief of staff of the Prussian Army for thirty years, he is regarded as the creator of a new, more modern method of directing armies in the field and one of the finest military minds of his generation. He commanded troops in Europe and the Middle East, in the Second Schleswig War, Austro-Prussian War, and Franco-Prussian War. He is described as embodying "Prussian military organization and tactical genius".

He is notably the earliest-born human whose recorded voice is preserved, being born in the last year of the 18th century (1800). He made four recordings; two that were recorded in October 1889 are preserved to this day.

The painting is signed in the bottom right corner J. NINK 1910. The painting has a great deal of cracking but is still solid without any serious damage. The frame is a very pretty gilt example. The painting depicts Moltke facing left, wearing his “Blue Max” or Pour le Mérite. The back of the frame reads:

HELMUTH VON MOLTKE
1800-1891
FIELD MARSHAL. FRENCH ORDER OF MERIT MEDAL

A very beautiful painting that will display well with any Imperial German collection. Mounted and ready to display! Don’t miss it.
