Original German WWII Walther PP Pistol Brown Pebble Grain Leather Breakaway Holster by Richard Ehrhardt - dated 1943

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice service used condition German WWII Era brown pebble grain leather breakaway holster for the Walther PP pistol. 7.65 / .32ACP caliber "pocket" pistols were standard pistols used by Ordnungspolizei (Order Police) units. The brown color of this holster usually indicates issue to a rural police unit. The design follows the standard breakaway "high-front" design of the period, with a top closure strap on the flap, which attaches to a stud on the "breakaway" portion of the holster. There is a magazine pouch on the front, partly covered by the top flap.

The holster is nicely maker marked and dated on the inside of the holster on the underside of the top flap with bdr 43. This indicates 1943 production by Richard Ehrhardt of Pößneck in Thüringen, a known holster producer during the war according to GERMAN MILITARY LETTER CODES 1939-1945 by John Walter. To the right of the marking is a faint Waffenamt WaA86 stamp, the correct inspector for this maker.

Condition of the holster is very good with a lovely broken in look, and it looks to have been a USGI bring back, as we can see where a "U.S." pin was once attached, as well as others. Holsters were common items for USGIs to acquire, and they would apply insignia to them as decorations. The leather is still supple, and has a great brown color. The stitching is mostly intact, with just a bit of popping at the very bottom, and it still retains the original white color well. The securing strap is still intact, with no tearing.

A great accessory to pair with a WWII German Walther PP Pistol. Ready to display!

The Walther PP (Polizeipistole, or police pistol) series pistols are blowback-operated semi-automatic pistols, developed by the German arms manufacturer Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen.

It features an exposed hammer, a traditional double-action trigger mechanism, a single-column magazine, and a fixed barrel that also acts as the guide rod for the recoil spring. The series includes the Walther PP, PPK, PPK/S, and PPK/E models. The Walther TPH pocket pistol is a smaller caliber pistol introduced in 1971 identical in handling and operation to the PPK.

Various PP series are manufactured in Germany, France and the United States. In the past, the PPK version has been manufactured by Walther in its own factory in Germany, as well as under licenses by Manurhin in France; Interarms in Virginia and by Smith & Wesson in Maine. Since 2018, PPK and PPK/S models have been built at the factory of US-based subsidiary Walther Arms, Inc.

The PP and the PPK were among the world's first successful double action semi-automatic pistols. They are still manufactured by Walther and have been widely copied. The design inspired other pistols, among them the Soviet Makarov, the Hungarian FEG PA-63, the Polish P-64, the American Accu-Tek AT-380 II, and the Argentinian Bersa Thunder 380. The PP and PPK were both popular with European police and civilians for being reliable and concealable. During World War II, they were issued to the German military (officers), including the Luftwaffe, as well as the Ordnungspolizei.
